Modern Night at the Gem

City in Motion Dance Theater is pleased to presents 20th anniversary year of “Modern Night" at the Gem on Saturday, February 3, 2024. 

It is City in Motion’s goal to facilitate growth in our dance community by continually striving to raise the level of excellence in our productions. Decidedly so, all selected choreographers have been reviewed by an independent adjudicator, Production Director and Artistic Co-Directors. Choreographer application open online through November 24. 

In honor of 20 years, a adjudicated Youth Choreographers Workshop will be offered in-tandem with Modern Night at the Gem. Youth ages 13-18 will have the opportunity to attend professional modern dance workshops lead by industry experts. Youth participants will have the chance to choreograph original work, with 1 piece being selected to present alongside the professional works during Modern Night this year.

All guests are invited to our after-show reception at Vine St. Brewing, Missouri's First & Only Black-Owned Brewery at 2010 Vine Street. Reception is free and starts at 9pm, light appetizers will be provided, guests are responsible for beverage purchases.

This concert builds upon City in Motion’s mission; to foster the development of high-quality, contemporary dance programming in our metropolitan area.  Since 1985, City in Motion has provided opportunities for local choreographers to present their works through this original Choreographers’ showcase.
